Since its invention the military commanders saw on the motorcycle the perfect substitute of the horse, especially in the units of light cavalry.

The change of the horse to the motorcycle was so sudden in the cavalry units that the soldiers continued to use the Spurs as part of their uniform as cyclists.

During the U.S. Army campaign in Mexico against the bands of Pancho Villa, a large number of motorcycles from different brands were used, among which Harley-Davidson and the Indian quickly stood out.

The German army due to the restrictions to which the Treaty of Versailles forced it found on the motorcycle an easy and affordable way to train its troops.

Practically all European countries had their own factories of motorcycles, and they supplied their respective armies of machines generally of very good quality.
