The charge of the gendarmes of King Francisco I of France, was found in Pavia with the joint formations of Spaniards and Imperials.
The cream of the cavalry and the French aristocracy, was thwarted by the firepower of the arquebusiers and the riders were knocked down by pikemen and swordsmen who finished off them on the ground, forgetting the valuable rescues they could get from such important prisoners.
The King of France himself was taken prisoner and almost miraculously saved his life.
This chapter of history is masterfully told in an article with humorous touches entitled "Jodía Pavia" our great writer Arturo Perez-Reverte.
This soldier could have been the one who reduced the king of France. It is equipped with a short breastplate, trousers and jerkin slashed in the Tudesco style and covered with a parlotte or hat beret that hides a hemispherical helmet that protects it from cavalry sword blows.
His harquebus is ready for firing with the fuse lit.
