William Cody was an American explorer and hunter. He worked as a guide for the cavalry and later as a hunter for the railroad, hunting buffaloes to feed the workers who traced the roads that were going to communicate the Atlantic coast with the Pacific coast. The indiscriminate hunting that Cody and many other hunters conducted in that period led the American bison almost to extinction. In his maturity, he earned his living with a great show with which he first toured the eastern states of the United States and later toured throughout Europe. In that show he showed an audience eager for emotions his vision of the conquest of the wild west. Demonstrations of shooting, dressage, rodeo, the persecution of the diligence by the Indians, the bandits. All this could be admired for only a few coins by an audience that was already beginning to mythologize the legendary west.

This toy soldier shows us Buffalo as he appeared in his show, with an Indian-style deerskin jacket, high-fashioned old boots, brightly colored shirts suitable for the show, but very unhelpful in a real fight, and her long blond hair, her mustache and her characteristic goatee.
