French army
The French army, during the period spanning from the French Revolution to the Battle of Waterloo, underwent an extraordinary military transformation. From the poorly organized and irregularly uniformed troops of revolutionary France emerged, within just a few years, the powerful war machine created by Napoleon Bonaparte. From that moment on, French military superiority dominated Europe until its final defeat in 1815.
