Lope de Vega, whose full name was Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio, was born on November 25, 1562, in Madrid, Spain. He was one of the most prolific and prominent writers of the Spanish Golden Age, a culturally rich period spanning from the late 16th century to the mid-17th century.
Lope de Vega was a Spanish poet, playwright, and novelist. His life was marked by a series of turbulent events, including the death of his father when he was a child and his subsequent entry into the seminary. However, his inclination towards writing and a desire for a more adventurous life led him to abandon the ecclesiastical career.
Throughout his life, Lope de Vega wrote over 3,000 sonnets, numerous novels, and an extraordinary number of theatrical works. He excelled particularly in the dramatic genre, becoming a key figure in the development of Spanish comedy. Among his most well-known works are "El perro del hortelano" (The Dog in the Manger), "Fuenteovejuna," and "La dama boba" (The Foolish Lady).
Lope de Vega lived a passionate and tumultuous life, marked by numerous love affairs and conflicts with other writers of his time. He passed away on August 27, 1635, in Madrid, leaving behind a literary legacy that endures to this day, recognized as one of the great figures in Spanish literature.
