15th Alabama Infantry Regiment – ​​Confederate Army, 1861-1865

The 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment was one of the most prominent units of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Recruited in 1861, this regiment, composed mostly of soldiers from Alabama, fought in some of the most decisive battles of the conflict, including Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Chickamauga.

One of its most memorable moments occurred at the Battle of Gettysburg (1863), when the 15th Alabama, under the command of Colonel William C. Oates, participated in the assault on Little Round Top, fiercely engaging Joshua Chamberlain's 20th Maine in hand-to-hand combat that became one of the most iconic actions of the war.
