The cuirassiers are part, together with the dragons, of the heavy cavalry.
They are soldiers of high stature, mounted on horses of great height.
In addition, they could act as cavalry charging against the enemy, saber in hand or mounted infantry, dismounting to carry out a fusillade discharge, as if they were a unit of light infantry.
They were generally regarded as elite units.
