Austrian cuirassiers, unlike their French counterparts, wore only the cuirass of the cuirass, fastened by cross-straps to the back. The French wore the full corselet, that is, breastplate and backrest. In addition, the Austrian cuirasses did not show the natural color of the metal, but were black or lacquered and in the case of officers, adorned with chains of gold scales and overlaid pieces of gold brass.
