Soldiers destined for the squares of Cuba, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico, received on arrival at the islands as distinctive headwear, a braided straw hat called jipi japa, with a black beanie and a rosette with the national colors on the side law.
The troops destined in Cuba, received a model of wing much wider than its companions of Philippines.
However, in both garrisons different types of hats coexisted since the suppliers manufacturers of the army did not realize a formalized model.
