Colonel James Bowie was born in Kentucky on April 10, 1796.
Since he was four years old, he lived in Missouri and Louisiana. Territories that at that time belonged even to the Spanish crown.
In his youth he devoted himself to the slave trade between the Caribbean and the lower Mississippi.
The money earned with this trade invested him in land speculation, a business that, from 1830, took him to Texas, speculating with the lands for settlers, getting thousands of hectares with highly suspicious methods.
The new laws of General Santa Ana, prevented speculation, a fundamental reason that pushed this patriot to fight for the independence of Texas.
