The great war saw the appearance in all the armies, of a pledge almost forgotten since the war of the thirty years, the steel helmet.
Each country designs its own model of protection for its soldiers.
The British model bears a striking resemblance to the "iron hat" or "chapel de fer" of the medieval peons, although somewhat smaller and lighter in weight.
