Roman collectible Toy Soldier, reproduced in 1:30 scale (60 mm). Carefully modelled, moulded and cast in our own workshop, then hand-painted with traditional craftsmanship. Made of metal and produced entirely in our workshop by Kronprinz Toy Soldiers.
In the Roman army, military orders were not communicated solely through visual signals and standards. Commanders also relied on musical instruments to transmit instructions to their troops during marches, manoeuvres and battles.
The cornicen was the musician responsible for playing the cornu, a large curved brass instrument whose powerful sound carried signals across the battlefield. Another instrument used by Roman military units was the lituus, a long, slender and straight trumpet.
Military musicians, like standard-bearers, often covered their helmets with animal skins. The aquiliferi and signiferi of the First Praetorian Cohort wore lion skins and heads as distinctive emblems. Musicians generally wore bear or wolf skins, while their auxiliary companions also used these animal skins, but without the head, retaining only the ears.
This Praetorian Cornicen represents one of the specialists responsible for transmitting military commands through musical signals, an essential element in maintaining coordination and discipline within the Roman army.
