1:30 scale (60 mm) collectible Roman Toy Soldier, modelled, moulded, cast and hand-painted in our own workshop. Made of metal and finished by hand using traditional manufacturing techniques.
The Roman signifer was the standard-bearer of a century or military unit. His duty was to carry and protect the emblem identifying his unit, serving an important symbolic role and providing a visual reference during military movements and combat.
The Praetorian cohorts used distinctive standards of their own. While the First Cohort could display mural crowns, laurel wreaths and symbols associated with the emperor, the remaining cohorts were identified by specific insignia.
These standards featured a golden rectangular plaque bearing the cohort number, accompanied by a series of discs or phalerae indicating its numerical designation. In this example, the four discs identify the IV Praetorian Cohort.
This Roman Toy Soldier depicts a Praetorian standard-bearer carrying his distinctive military emblem, making it an interesting addition to any collection dedicated to the Roman army and the Imperial Praetorian Guard.
