.
Collectible 1:30 scale (60 mm) Roman toy soldier, depicting a Praetorian Guard of Vitellius, equipped with chainmail armour, metal helmet, decorated oval shield and Roman sword. Modelled, moulded, cast, assembled and hand-painted in our workshop. Made in Spain.
During the turbulent year AD 69, known as the Year of the Four Emperors, rival Roman armies fought for control of the Empire. Among the main contenders was Vitellius, supported by the Rhine legions, who managed to seize the imperial throne after defeating the forces of Otho.
This Praetorian Guard of Vitellius features particularly interesting body armour. Unlike other soldiers in the collection, he wears chainmail armour, made from numerous interlinked metal rings. This type of protection offered resistance against enemy cuts and blows while maintaining considerable flexibility.
His equipment is completed by a metal helmet with cheek guards, a blue and gold decorated oval shield and a Roman sword.
His combat stance, with his weapon arm extended and shield held forward, captures the attitude of a soldier ready to face the enemy.
A distinctive representation of the Roman Praetorian Guard during one of the most fascinating episodes of the Roman civil wars.
