Upon arrival at the Grafenwöhr training camp, volunteers received German regulatory uniforms, anecdotally protesting that they were not given the half-round boots they had used to see in their German colleagues since the beginning of the war. The shortage of materials introduced in the German uniform short canvas leggings with straps that were placed on the short boot of statutory laces. However, some volunteers and especially the noncommissioned officers obtained their desired boots in various ways.
