In the German infantry companies, and therefore also in those of the blue division, at least two machine gun crews were included.
These teams were composed of five soldiers: Shooter, second shooter, ammunition server, and two escorts.
In this case it is the second shooter, who carries an extra ammunition box and that was armed with a Máuser KAR 98K carbine.
He could also carry a tube with a spare barrel, since due to the high rate of fire of the MG it had to be replaced every certain interval.
