William Brandon was an English knight who fought in the service of Henry Tudor, the future Henry VII, during the Wars of the Roses. At the Battle of Bosworth, fought on 22 August 1485, he carried Henry Tudor's banner and was killed during the final charge led by Richard III, according to historical accounts. Although medieval sources do not always distinguish precisely between the terms “standard” and “banner”, Brandon's role as bearer of the Tudor banner has become associated with one of the most dramatic episodes of that battle. His death preceded Henry Tudor's victory, which ended Richard III's reign and paved the way for the Tudor dynasty. This TOY SOLDIER commemorates one of the participants in the battle that changed the course of English history.
