Collectible Roman toy soldier representing a Roman centurion leading his century into battle. Armed with a gladius (Roman sword) and scutum (legionary shield), he wears the distinctive transverse helmet crest, traditionally associated with the rank of centurion. An original handcrafted figure from our Rome Collection, created for collectors of historical military miniatures.
The centurion was the officer in command of a Roman century, a military unit that during the Imperial period normally consisted of 80 legionaries.
During battle, his position was generally at the head of his men, directing their movements and maintaining the discipline and cohesion of the unit.
One of the most recognisable features of his equipment was the transverse crest on his helmet, positioned from side to side. This distinctive arrangement helped distinguish the centurion from ordinary legionaries and made him easier to identify by the soldiers following behind him.
The centurion played a fundamental role in Roman military tactics. He was not only responsible for transmitting orders from his superiors but also had to lead his men in the most difficult situations, setting an example of courage and discipline.
This figure depicts one of these officers at a decisive moment in battle: leading his century's charge after the legionaries have thrown their javelins, or pila, at the enemy.
With his sword raised and protected by his shield, the centurion leads his men forward into close combat.
A Roman toy soldier representing the authority, leadership and fighting spirit of the professional officers who helped make the Roman legions one of the most effective military forces of the ancient world.
