The Roman army was much more than a powerful fighting force. Its effectiveness depended on an extensive technical, logistical and administrative organisation capable of maintaining thousands of soldiers, their weapons, fortifications, camps and lines of communication.

Among the officers associated with this organisation was the Praefectus fabri, a military official connected with the supervision of craftsmen, specialists and technical personnel working for the Roman army. His responsibilities included overseeing workshops, construction activities, equipment maintenance and other services essential to military operations.

The fabri were skilled workers and craftsmen involved in activities such as carpentry, metalworking, fortification building and the repair of military equipment. Their expertise was particularly important during military campaigns, when Roman forces needed to construct bridges, defensive positions, siege engines and temporary camps.

The Praefectus fabri represents the highly developed technical and organisational side of Roman military power. Behind the legions' victories stood an impressive infrastructure of skilled workers, engineering knowledge and carefully coordinated resources.

Our miniature depicts this Roman officer wearing military clothing, a red tunic and a distinctive cloak draped over his shoulders. He carries what appears to be a document or writing tablet, an appropriate detail for a character associated with supervision and administration.

This handcrafted TOY SOLDIER is produced in white metal, traditionally modelled, cast and individually hand-painted in our own workshop in Spain. A historically themed miniature celebrating the technical and organisational achievements of the Roman army.

An original figure from our Power of Rome collection, ideal for collectors of Roman soldiers, historical metal miniatures and military history enthusiasts.
