PR 037 Legio V macedonica optio

The optio was the second in command in the century. He was indeed an experienced legionnaire who had proven himself capable of becoming Centurion.

As his post in formation during combat was on the side of the century, the crest of his bow was longitudinal and not transversal like the centurions so that the soldiers could locate him just looking to the right of the formation.

The feathers are reminiscent of the adornments of the archaic italic hulls.
