An individual Roman figure measuring 60 mm in 1:30 scale, made from white metal alloy. Modelled, cast, assembled and hand-painted in our workshop in Spain. The figure depicts a senior Roman officer wearing a purple cloak and military attire, holding a helmet with a red crest in his hands.
The Roman legate (legatus) was one of the highest-ranking officers within Rome's military and administrative structure. During the Republic and, particularly, under the Empire, legates held positions of considerable responsibility, commanding legions, provincial armies and strategically important territories.
During the Imperial period, the legatus legionis was generally a senator appointed to command a legion. His authority included directing military operations, maintaining troop discipline and overseeing the unit. In provinces governed by the emperor, legates could also assume important political and military responsibilities.
The office of legate was closely connected with the political and military careers of Rome's ruling elite. For many senators, commanding a legion was a significant stage in their public career and an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership on the frontiers of the Empire.
This figure evokes one of these senior Roman commanders, representatives of the authority and organisation that made possible the expansion and preservation of Roman power throughout its history.
