Legio IX Hispana, also known as the Ninth Spanish Legion, was one of the most distinguished military units of the Roman army during the early Imperial period. Its history is closely associated with Rome's campaigns of expansion and the consolidation of imperial power across its territories.

The legion took part in the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 43, during the reign of Emperor Claudius. It was later stationed at Eboracum (modern-day York), one of the main Roman military centres in the province. The legion's ultimate fate remains a subject of historical debate. Although its disappearance has traditionally been associated with campaigns in the early second century, no definitive explanation has been established.

This figure depicts a Roman centurion, a professional officer responsible for commanding and maintaining discipline within a century, usually consisting of around eighty legionaries. His equipment reflects his rank and position within the Roman military structure: a helmet with a red transverse crest, armour decorated with phalerae, chainmail and a military belt.

Particular attention is drawn to the imperial scutum with a curvilinear outline, the large, rounded rectangular shield characteristic of Roman legionaries during the Imperial period. The centurion brandishes his sword in a dynamic pose that conveys authority and determination.

This HANDCRAFTED TOY SOLDIER is made from white metal alloy, in 1:30 scale, and stands approximately 60 mm tall. It has been sculpted, cast, assembled and hand-painted in our workshop in Spain, with particular attention to the historical details of Roman weapons, clothing and military equipment.

An excellent addition for collectors of Roman toy soldiers, historical miniatures and figures of the Imperial Roman army, belonging to our Power of Rome collection.
