PR 086 Frankish warrior 5th century AD

During the 5th century AD, the Franks emerged as one of the most influential Germanic peoples in Western Europe. Initially established in territories along the Lower Rhine, they gradually expanded their presence into Gaul, taking advantage of the growing political and military weakness of the Western Roman Empire.

Frankish warriors came from different social backgrounds, and their military equipment varied considerably according to wealth and status. While members of the aristocracy could afford better weapons and protective equipment, many ordinary warriors fought wearing woollen or linen garments, carrying wooden shields and using iron weapons.

The round shield was an important component of their defensive equipment. Generally constructed from wood and reinforced with metal fittings, it provided protection during close combat. Swords and spears were also among the weapons used by these Germanic warriors.

Our miniature depicts a 5th-century Frankish warrior in the heat of battle, raising his sword while holding a round shield in front of his body. His clothing and overall appearance evoke the Germanic fighters who played an important role in the military and political transformations that marked the end of Antiquity.

This handcrafted TOY SOLDIER in 1:30 scale is modelled, cast and hand-painted in our workshop in Spain. An excellent addition to collections of Germanic warriors, enemies of Rome and armies of Late Antiquity.
