HANDCRAFTED TOY SOLDIER depicting a Celtiberian warrior from pre-Roman Hispania. A 60 mm figure (1:30 scale), cast in white metal alloy.
The warrior wears a metal helmet topped with a striking red crest, body armour, a red tunic and arm bands. He carries a round shield with a central boss (umbo) and wears equipment inspired by the ancient warrior peoples of the Iberian Peninsula. Sculpted, cast, assembled and hand-painted in our workshop in Spain.
Before the arrival of the Roman legions, the Iberian Peninsula was inhabited by numerous peoples with their own cultures, languages and military traditions. Among the most prominent were the Iberians and Celtiberians, communities that developed important urban centres, advanced metalworking skills and a renowned warrior tradition.
The town of Porcuna, in the province of Jaén, holds an important place in the history of pre-Roman Hispania. Known in antiquity as Ipolca, it was a major Iberian city whose territory achieved considerable political, economic and artistic development. Its famous Cerrillo Blanco sculptural complex, dating to the 5th century BC, includes representations of warriors and battle scenes and is one of the most remarkable testimonies to Iberian culture.
Roman expansion into the Iberian Peninsula, which began during the Second Punic War in the late 3rd century BC, brought Rome into contact and conflict with these peoples. The conquest was a long process marked by alliances, resistance and warfare, transforming the indigenous world and eventually leading to the development of Roman Hispania.
This figure depicts a Celtiberian warrior equipped for battle. He wears a metal helmet topped with a striking red crest, body armour, a red tunic and arm bands. His round shield with a central boss (umbo) completes his defensive equipment. The combination of helmet, body protection and shield evokes the variety of weapons and defensive equipment used by the warrior peoples of the Iberian Peninsula in pre-Roman times.
It is worth noting that Porcuna was an important centre of the Iberian world, rather than a Celtiberian city in the strict geographical sense. The figure's name refers more broadly to the ancient warrior peoples of Hispania who confronted Rome and became part of the history of the Roman conquest and Romanisation of the peninsula.
This HANDCRAFTED TOY SOLDIER is made from white metal alloy, in 1:30 scale, and stands approximately 60 mm tall. It has been sculpted, cast, assembled and hand-painted in our workshop in Spain, with particular attention to the details of the helmet, body armour, clothing and shield.
An excellent addition for collectors of Celtiberian and Iberian warriors, pre-Roman Hispania and miniatures depicting the peoples who confronted the Roman legions. It belongs to our Power of Rome collection, which also explores the peoples and cultures encountered by Rome during its expansion.
