The House of Guzmán was one of the ancient noble lineages of Castile, whose members held important positions in the service of the Crown throughout the Middle Ages. Among their heraldic symbols were the golden cauldrons on a blue field, an emblem associated with the status of the ricoshombres and their ability to maintain their own military retinues. These arms became associated with the lineage during the reign of Alfonso VIII, in the 12th and 13th centuries. This TOY SOLDIER depicts one of those Castilian knights, displaying the colours and emblems of the House of Guzmán in the context of the military campaigns of the Reconquista and the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1212).
