The Legio XIV Gemina (Fourteenth Twin Legion) was one of the most distinguished units of the Roman army. Its origins date back to Julius Caesar's campaigns in Gaul, although its reorganisation and establishment as an Imperial legion were connected with the events following Caesar's assassination and the rise of Octavian.
The surname Gemina, meaning twin, refers to the joining of two legionary units. The Fourteenth Legion gained particular distinction during Emperor Claudius's invasion of Britain in AD 43, where it played an important role in the Roman conquest of the island.
Throughout its long history, the legion took part in numerous military campaigns and served on several frontiers of the Roman Empire. It was later stationed at Mogontiacum, modern-day Mainz, and subsequently at Carnuntum in the Roman province of Pannonia, where it remained for much of the Imperial period.
Our miniature depicts a Roman legionary of the Legio XIV Gemina, wearing characteristic lorica segmentata armour, an imperial helmet and caligae, and carrying a spear and a rectangular shield decorated with an eagle motif. These elements evoke the appearance of a professional soldier serving in the Roman army during the High Empire.
This handcrafted TOY SOLDIER is an excellent addition for collectors of Roman legions, Imperial Roman military history and ancient military miniatures.
Sculpted, cast and hand-painted in our own workshop in Spain, every Kronprinz figure is an artisanal collectible created for enthusiasts of military history.
